Today, on the occasion of the eighth death anniversary of the late Smt. Sona Devi, a lecture series was inaugurated in the auditorium of Sona Devi University. On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dr. J.P. Mishra, said that we have gathered here today as an inspiration from the late Singh couple. It is due to the values instilled by the late Sukhdev Singh Ji and the late Sona Devi Ji that we have reached this point.
Through a story, the Vice-Chancellor explained that a person should perform their duties in such a way that they bring happiness not only to themselves but also to others. The Sona Devi family is well-known for their contributions to society. Therefore, the students of Sona Devi University should also shape their personalities in such a way that their identity is defined by their actions. To be successful in life, one’s deeds must be commendable, and one should inspire others to do good work.
The university’s registrar, Dr. Gulab Singh Azad, stated that such events are held in honor of fortunate individuals. This lecture series will also benefit our students. Dr. Azad emphasized that to achieve immortality, one must be filled with a spirit of sacrifice and must work for the welfare of society, setting aside personal ego. The lives of the late Sukhdev Singh and Sona Devi are a living example of this. Their journey was full of struggles and inspiration, yet they made invaluable contributions to social service and the development of education.
The registrar further said that Mr. Singh was truly a great individual. He always completed the work he started. Drawing a comparison between the revered Sukhdev Singh and a lion, Mr. Azad highlighted his unique qualities and explained how he achieved success with complete focus and careful planning. Encouraging the students, he said that whatever they do in life should have a distinct identity. It was by following in their footsteps that our Chancellor, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, established Sona Devi University.
The late Sona Devi’s life was inspirational; she was a symbol of compassion, kindness, and love. Her dedication to social service and education was remarkable. She viewed education as a sacred duty and made unparalleled contributions to education and women’s empowerment. Mr. Azad urged everyone to follow her path and strive to become successful individuals.
Expressing his condolences for the departed soul, Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh emphasized that it is essential for all of us to learn about the personality and deeds of the Singh couple, who served as the inspiration for the establishment of Sona Devi University. They never compromised on quality, were straightforward, and deeply committed to social causes. Their ideals were of the highest order, and they respected differing opinions. We must keep their principles in mind as we strive for success in life.
Chancellor Prabhakar Singh also shared that under the social responsibility initiatives of the Sona Devi Memorial Educational Foundation Trust, eye camps, blood donation drives, and blanket distribution programs are conducted from time to time. As part of this, Sona Devi University, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, East Singhbhum, will organize a three-day free cataract surgery camp in Jamshedpur from February 15 to February 17.
