The Induction-cum-Orientation Program 2025 of Sona Devi University was held with great pomp and ceremony today at the Michael John Auditorium, Jamshedpur. The program commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony by Chief Guest Mr. Abhijeet A. Nanoti, Managing Director, JCAPCPL Jamshedpur; University Founder and Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh; Vice Chancellor Dr. J.P. Mishra; Registrar Dr. Gulab Singh Azad; and Sona Devi Memorial Educational Foundation Trust member Dr. Nirmala Shukla.
On this occasion, Assistant Professor of Sanskrit, Ms. Nikita, recited “Deep Suryagni Roopastvam Tejasah Tej Uttamam.” Prior to that, Ms. Anusua Roy, Assistant Professor of English, introduced Sona Devi University to the esteemed guests, parents, students, and other dignitaries, with support from Mr. Uday Chandravanshi.
An audio-visual presentation showcasing the university’s vision and journey was screened. Student Megha Das and her group gave a graceful Ganesh Vandana performance through dance and music. Dr. Sangita Chowdhury, Head of the Music Department, beautifully rendered the university anthem “Jai Jai Jai Sona Devi Gurukul, Tera Gaurav Amit, Tera Yash Amar…”
Registrar Dr. Gulab Singh Azad presented the university’s annual report, outlining the institution’s goals, activities, achievements, and future plans. Faculty members sang a collective welcome song to greet the guests.
A Bengali devotional folk dance was performed by Shalini and team to the song “Kalo Jole Kuchla Tole,” expressing Radha’s emotions upon Krishna’s departure to Vrindavan. Monali, Priya, and others offered a dance performance in honor of Goddess Durga.
On this special occasion, Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh welcomed the Chief Guest Mr. Abhijeet A. Nanoti and honored him with a shawl and memento.
The university’s annual magazine “Badhte Kadam 2025” was released under the editorship of Dr. Gulab Singh Azad and compiled with the editorial support of Dr. Neelmani Kumar and team.
The university also announced recipients of the newly established “S.D. Singh Memorial Service Awards.” Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh explained that from this year onwards, the university will honor individuals annually for outstanding contributions in social work, education, industry, health, and tourism. This year’s honorees include:
- Dr. Hari Ballabh Singh R.C. (Education)
- Mr. Vijay Kumar Singh, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, East Singhbhum (Social Work)
- Mr. Amitabh Chatterjee, for his contributions to health and cancer care at MTMH (Healthcare)
- Mr. A.K. Srivastava, President, Jamshedpur Citizen Forum (Industry)
- Mr. Amit Roy, for his work in commerce and tourism (Tourism & Commerce)
Students from 12 different schools under Sona Devi University participated in a banner show, proudly displaying their departments.
A special audio-visual message from Prof. Dr. Amlan Chakraborty, Advisor to the university and Director of A.K. Choudhury School of Information and Technology, University of Calcutta, was played.
Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh also announced the launch of the “Radheshyam Agrawal Memorial Hindi Honor” from this year, recognizing excellence in Hindi language studies. A cash prize of ₹10,000 will be awarded annually to deserving students. The winners for this year were:
- First Prize: Vipasha Nayak (B.Tech)
- Second Prize: Pragya Kumari (B.Tech)
- Third Prize (Joint): Megha Das (B.Pharm) and Khushi (B.Tech)
These students were declared winners of the university’s Hul Diwas Essay Competition and were awarded by Mr. Udit Agrawal.
Research scholar Mr. Prasenjit Sarkar from the Zoology Department gave a presentation on the biodiversity of flora and fauna in Ghatsila, East Singhbhum.
B.Tech student Vansh and his team delivered a dynamic dance performance to the Bollywood song “Aankhen Khuli Ho Ya Ho Band.”
Student Gautam and his group performed a short play on forest conservation.
Aman and Reshmi danced to “Baadshah O Baadshah,” energizing the audience.
Gargi and Shalini presented a folk dance to “Madhuban Mein Radhika Nache Re.”
Aman and his team gave an emotional and patriotic drama based on Operation Sindoor.
Khushi and team performed a celebratory dance to the Gujarati song “Ae Shubharambh Ho Shubharambh Mangalbela Aayi.”
Aparna and her group danced joyfully to the Bollywood number “Badi Mushkil Baba Badi Mushkil.”
Meanwhile, Pharmacy student Sandeep Singh Dev delivered a speech based on “Rashmirathi.”



All faculty members and the assistant managerial team of the university were introduced during the program. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Kanchan Sinha, Head of the Department of History.
At the end of the induction program, a solemn tribute was paid to the late Dishom Guru Shibu Soren and former Education Minister Late Ramdas Soren. A two-minute silence was observed to pray for the peace of their departed souls. The program concluded with the National Anthem.
On this occasion, several distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions in various fields of society were honored with shawls and mementoes. Among the notable attendees were:
- Mr. Prabhat Sharma, former Head of Corporate Communications at Tata Steel and a member of Sona Devi University’s Advisory Board
- Mr. Aditya Gaur, instrumental in bringing Tata Group’s first hotel, Taj Vivanta, to Golmuri, Jamshedpur
- Mr. Rakeshwar Pandey, former president of several trade unions
- Mr. Rajesh Shukla, Vice President, East Singhbhum District Bar Council

Chief Guest Mr. Abhijeet A. Nanoti congratulated students for enrolling at Sona Devi University and remarked that Jamshedpur is an excellent city for educational opportunities. He noted that many universities have been established in the region over the past 5–10 years, and Sona Devi University stands out for providing a conducive learning environment. He emphasized that technology has bridged the generation gap and encouraged students to focus on fulfilling their dreams, stay away from negativity, and avoid bad habits.
Dharmendra Kumar Singh advised students to concentrate solely on their education and comply with PCI regulations.
Renowned sociologist Ravindra Nath Choubey appreciated the progress the university has made in just one year. He commended the university anthem for being full of philosophical depth and stressed the importance of understanding life, saying, “He who understands life, understands education.” He also highlighted the role of the body alongside education, stating that true education means self-awareness.
Mr. Udit Agrawal, Editor of the Hindi daily Uditvani, stated that Sona Devi University has made tremendous progress in a very short time. He mentioned that the university grows in size and stature every year. Speaking about the Radheshyam Agrawal Memorial Hindi Honor, he said the university is a resource of society, and urged everyone to preserve it. He encouraged students to make full use of their time in this digital era and focus on skill development.
Vice Chancellor Dr. J.P. Mishra explained the purpose of the induction program, saying that nothing happens without a reason. The university was established in Ghatshila to bring educational opportunities to the region. Previously, students had to travel to other cities for education. Now, they can receive the same quality of education locally.
Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh elaborated on the vision behind the program, stating that the goal is to remove the fears and doubts in students’ minds and to provide a supportive educational environment. Regular classes will commence from August 28. He emphasized that the university focuses not just on academics, but also on holistic development through various activities and skill-building programs.
