Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) at Sona Devi University

At Sona Devi University (SDU), we believe in providing an inclusive, equitable, and supportive environment for all students, staff, and faculty, regardless of their gender, Sex,socio-economic status, religion, caste, or disability. The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) plays a vital role in promoting equal opportunities for everyone on campus and ensures that all members have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed academically, socially, and professionally.

The EOC aims to create a campus environment where diversity is celebrated and every individual is given an equal chance to excel, regardless of their background or challenges.

Mission

The mission of the Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) is to:

  • Ensure that every student, faculty member, and staff is given the same opportunities for growth, development, and success.
  • Promote an inclusive campus culture that celebrates diversity and addresses issues related to inequality, discrimination, and bias.
  • Support underrepresented groups through targeted initiatives that enable them to reach their full potential.
  • Ensure compliance with government policies related to equal opportunities and affirmative action.

What we stand for

Core Functions and Responsibilities

Promoting equal opportunities

Ensures students from SC, ST, OBC, women, and differently-abled backgrounds receive equal academic, professional, and personal growth opportunities.

Awareness programs

Organises workshops, seminars, and campaigns on equal opportunities, diversity, and inclusion among students, faculty, and staff.

Support for underrepresented groups

Provides academic, emotional, psychological, and counselling support including mentorship programs and academic assistance to overcome barriers.

Monitoring & evaluation

Regularly reviews policies, programs, and initiatives to ensure effectiveness and identifies gaps in access for underrepresented groups.

Scholarships & financial aid

Ensures students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds have access to scholarships, financial aid, fee concessions, and educational resources.

Grievance redressal

Provides a confidential mechanism for students, faculty, and staff facing discrimination, bias, or unequal treatment — handled with respect and fairness.

The EOC ensures compliance with government policies related to equal opportunities, including:
