A cultural program was organized today at the Vivekananda Auditorium of Sona Devi University, Ghatshila, on the occasion of the 165th birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.
On this occasion, the Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, said that Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was such a personality that anyone who honored him felt honored in return. “There must have been something truly extraordinary about him,” he remarked. He added that Tagore worked for the renaissance of society, encouraged creativity, and emphasized freedom of expression. He also played a significant role in spreading cultural consciousness.
Registrar of Sona Devi University, Dr. Nit Nayna, while discussing the contributions of Gurudev, said that he inspired people to nurture creative talent and to create an educational environment in harmony with nature.
The program began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and floral tributes to the portrait of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. On this occasion, B.Pharm students Baleshwari Mardi and Lakshmi Murmu presented a dance performance as a mark of gratitude to Gurudev. Ms. Anusua Roy, Assistant Professor of the English Department, gave an emotional dance performance. Dr. Nibha Shukla, Assistant Professor of the Psychology Department, enlightened everyone about the messages from Gurudev’s life.
Mr. Krishnendu Dutta, Assistant Professor of the Mathematics Department, presented a song in honor of Gurudev and said that “Where the mind is free, Gurudev still lives there today.”
B.Pharm student Sandeep Singh Dev and Finance Department staff member Priyanka also remembered and spoke about the teachings of Gurudev.
The program concluded with the National Anthem. The event was conducted by Dr. Priyanjana Banerjee, Head of the Bengali Department, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Kanchan Sinha, Head of the History Department.
