Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, received approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on 6 May 2026. AICTE grants recognition to undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma programs in technical education. Sona Devi University is currently offering B.Tech and Diploma courses in technical disciplines. The University has received approval for 600 seats across its various programs.
Students can pursue B.Tech programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Computer Science Engineering. The University also offers specializations in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Machine Learning, and Data Science. In addition, students can pursue diploma courses in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering.
AICTE is a national regulatory body responsible for overseeing technical education in India. Its primary role is to ensure the quality of education in fields such as engineering and management. Along with granting approval to institutions, AICTE also establishes educational guidelines and standards. Institutions recognized by AICTE provide quality and reliable education while ensuring that their curricula remain aligned with industry standards and equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for employment opportunities.
Vice Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Prof. Dr. Brajmohan Pat Pingua, stated that with AICTE approval, SDU students will now become eligible for pursuing higher technical education. They will also qualify for government scholarships and educational loans. He further explained that this recognition is granted only to institutions that possess the necessary infrastructure for technical education and meet high academic standards.
Prof. Dr. Brajmohan Pat Pingua previously served as a senior scientist at the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR), CSIR, Dhanbad. He has extensive experience working as a professor and possesses expertise in Material Science, Mining, and related industries. He has published dozens of research papers and holds several patents. He also informed that Sona Devi University has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with more than thirty institutions, including Intel, to facilitate internships and advanced training opportunities for students.
Registrar of Sona Devi University, Dr. Nit Nayna, expressed happiness over the achievement and stated that AICTE approval is a mark of credibility for any technical educational institution, assuring students of quality education.
Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Shri Prabhakar Singh, described this as a major achievement for the University and credited the success to the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mrs. Pooja Tiwari, and her team. The team includes Anal Bera, Mohit, Rahul Kumar Saw, Adil, S.K. Arif, Deepshikha Naskar, and Mrs. Monika Singh. Shri Singh stated that the team worked tirelessly day and night to accomplish this milestone and deserves congratulations for their dedication and hard work.
