“Walk in the footsteps of Baba Saheb and act in a way that people remember you”
– Dr. Gulab Singh Azad, Registrar, Sona Devi University
On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, Sona Devi University paid heartfelt tribute to Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. The celebration took place today, April 14th, in the auditorium of Sona Devi University, Ghatsila. Floral tributes were offered and garlands were placed on Baba Saheb’s portrait.
Registrar Dr. Gulab Singh Azad expressed gratitude towards Baba Saheb, saying that all citizens of India must learn from his struggles and dedication to education. He mentioned that Baba Saheb was one of the most educated individuals of his time. He emphasized that fulfilling Baba Saheb’s unaccomplished dreams through our thoughts, words, and actions would be the truest tribute to him.
Born on April 14, 1891, in Madhya Pradesh, Dr. Ambedkar devoted his life to fighting against social discrimination, untouchability, and casteism. Even today, there is a pressing need in our country and society to follow the path shown by him. The Indian Constitution, drafted under his guidance, is unique. Although it can be amended, its core spirit must remain untouched. Dr. Azad stated that looking at the state of various countries around the world, including our neighbors, makes us realize the greatness of India’s Constitution and democracy, which was made possible through Baba Saheb’s efforts.
Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh said that we must draw inspiration from Baba Saheb’s life and struggles. Dr. Ambedkar fought throughout his life to eradicate social evils. He believed that education was the key to transforming society. A scholar of many languages, he earned a law degree and pursued economics at the London School of Economics, eventually receiving a doctorate in the subject. After independence, he became India’s first Law Minister. In 1990, the Government of India honored him posthumously with the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award.
Mr. Singh paid tribute to Baba Saheb, stating that no country can progress without honoring its national heroes. The nation bows in respect to such great personalities who struggled lifelong for social justice, equality, and rights. Dr. Shiv Chandra Jha, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, also highlighted Baba Saheb’s life and contributions.
All officials, faculty members, and staff of Sona Devi University were present on this occasion in the university auditorium.
