Facilities for differently abled at Sona Devi University (Barrier-Free Environment)

At Sona Devi University (SDU), we are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible environment for all students, including those with disabilities. We believe in providing equal opportunities for academic success and personal development, irrespective of physical challenges. To ensure that differently-abled students can access all university facilities and participate fully in campus life, SDU has implemented various barrier-free facilities, including lifts and ramps across the campus.

Barrier-Free Infrastructure at Sona Devi University

Sona Devi University is committed to ensuring that all students, including those with physical disabilities, can access university facilities with ease. To achieve this, we have made significant improvements to our campus infrastructure, making it more accessible and inclusive.
  1. Lift Facilities
  2. Sona Devi University is equipped with elevators (lifts) in key buildings across the campus. These lifts ensure that students with mobility challenges can easily access classrooms, administrative offices, libraries, and other essential areas of the university.
    • Wide Elevators: The lifts are designed to accommodate students in wheelchairs or with other mobility aids.
    • Easy Accessibility: Strategically placed in all academic and administrative blocks, ensuring that no student with physical disabilities is restricted from accessing any part of the campus.

  3. Ramps for Easy Access
  4. To further enhance accessibility, SDU has ramps installed at the entrances of all major buildings, including hostels, lecture halls, libraries, and recreational areas.
    • Smooth and Wide Ramps: Designed for easy navigation, the ramps provide students in wheelchairs or those with walking aids the opportunity to move freely across the campus.
    • Safe and Durable Construction: The ramps are made with non-slip surfaces to ensure safety, especially during adverse weather conditions.

  5. Accessible Restrooms
  6. To ensure that differently-abled students have access to safe and convenient facilities, accessible restrooms have been installed in strategic locations around the campus.
    • Wide Doors and Spacious Interiors: The restrooms are designed to accommodate students who use wheelchairs.
    • Equipped with Essential Aids: Grab bars, adjustable sinks, and other facilities ensure the comfort and ease of use for differently-abled students.

  7. Accessible Pathways
  8. We have ensured that all major walkways, including those leading to classrooms, libraries, hostels, and sports facilities, are accessible to students with mobility challenges.
    • Smooth Surfaces: Pathways are designed with smooth, even surfaces to prevent obstacles for wheelchair users and others with disabilities.
    • Clear Signage: Easy-to-read and highly visible signs guide students with disabilities across the campus, ensuring they can navigate efficiently.

  9. Special Assistance for Examinations
  10. Sona Devi University provides special assistance for differently-abled students during exams. This includes:
    • Extra Time: Additional time for students with specific disabilities during written exams.
    • Scribes: Availability of scribes for students who may be unable to write due to physical limitations.
    • Accessible Exam Centers: Ensuring that all examination centers are accessible and equipped with the necessary facilities for students with disabilities.
