Sona Devi University Students Honoured for Outstanding Success in Technica 5

Students from Sona Devi University, who showcased remarkable success at the Technica 5 technical fest organized by the Department of Engineering and IT of Arka Jain University, Jamshedpur, were honored for their achievements. In this technical fest, the students from the School of Electrical Engineering of Sona Devi University secured the first position. During the felicitation ceremony held at the Vivekananda Auditorium of Sona Devi University, Registrar Dr. Gulab Singh Azad praised the faculty and students for their remarkable accomplishments. He mentioned that during the competition held on November 7 and 8, 2025, participants were given the opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity through model exhibitions and robotics competitions. Nearly 3,000 participants from three states took part in this fest, where the School of Electrical Engineering team from Sona Devi University delivered an exceptional performance and secured first place. Participants from Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha presented their innovative models during the event. The fest was inaugurated by Captain Amitabh Deep, Head of Tata Steel Foundation. The panel of judges, comprising experts from reputed technical institutions of the state, selected the best models for recognition. Registrar Dr. Gulab Singh Azad stated that students from the Diploma Third Semester developed a metal-detecting robot, which earned them this remarkable achievement — a matter of pride for the university. He congratulated Aman Ravidas, Shubhodeep Roy, Gautam Kumar Mahali, and Swarnendu Kulia, along with their department head Pooja Tiwari, for this outstanding success. The Sona Devi University team also secured first place in solo and group dance competitions, winning medals for their performances. Aman Ravidas and Rashmi Karmakar were specially congratulated for their hard work and talent. Additionally, B.Tech Third Semester students from the university displayed their creativity by presenting a model that demonstrated electricity generation from waste materials.

Sona Devi University NSS Unit Conducts Voter Awareness Campaign in Kitadih Village

“An Aware Voter is the True Strength of Democracy” – Dr. Shiv Chandra Jha, NSS Coordinator Under the aegis of the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, a voter awareness campaign was organized on November 3, 2025, in Kitadih village, which has been adopted by the university. Students and assistant professors from various departments of the university actively participated in this campaign. The objective of the program was to increase awareness among voters about the importance of casting their votes. The NSS unit of Sona Devi University undertook this commendable initiative to educate rural voters about their voting rights and to increase voter turnout. The campaign was led by NSS Nodal Officer Patatri Mali and Coordinator Dr. Shiv Chandra Jha. Students enthusiastically took out a rally in Kitadih village, raising slogans related to voter awareness and drawing the attention of the villagers. They also went door-to-door, interacting with voters and encouraging them to visit polling booths on time and exercise their right to vote. NSS Nodal Officer Patatri Mali interacted particularly with women voters in the village, motivating them to vote along with their families to help increase voter turnout in the upcoming Ghatsila Assembly by-election. On this occasion, Dr. Shiv Chandra Jha addressed the voters, stating that “Voting is not only a right but also a duty of every citizen. An aware voter is the true strength of democracy.” He urged the youth to motivate others to vote and play an active role in making the election process successful. As is known, the Ghatsila Assembly by-election is scheduled to be held on November 11, and the counting of votes will take place on November 14. A total of 14 candidates are contesting in this by-election, which was necessitated due to the untimely demise of the sitting MLA, Ramdas Soren.

Confluence of Faith, Purity, and Community Spirit Witnessed at Sona Devi University’s Diwali Fair

A special program was organized at the Ghatsila campus of Sona Devi University today on the occasion of Diwali and Chhath Puja to enlighten students about the significance of sun worship. Held at the university’s Vivekananda Auditorium, the event aimed to convey the spiritual and cultural importance of Chhath Puja and the reverence of the Sun God. The program commenced with a traditional invocation and worship of Chhath Mata and Lord Surya (Sun God), introducing students to the rituals and significance of the festival. On this occasion, students, teachers, and staff members sang various devotional songs dedicated to Chhath, expressing their faith, enthusiasm, and devotion through prayer and participation. As part of the cultural segment of the event, students gave captivating performances, including the rendition of several folk songs related to Chhath. In celebration of the Diwali fair, several food stalls were set up by students, offering delicious traditional dishes for all to enjoy. Vice Chancellor Dr. J.P. Lecture Organized at Sona Devi University on World Mental Health Day 2025

A lecture was organized today at the Vivekananda Auditorium of Sona Devi University on the occasion of World Mental Health Day 2025. The global theme for this year is “Mental Health in Disasters and Emergencies: Access to Services”, highlighting the critical need for mental health services during times of crisis. Key aspects of this theme include establishing coordination mechanisms for psychosocial support, strengthening community systems, training responders in psychological first aid, and expanding mental health services particularly for vulnerable populations. During the lecture, Registrar Prof. Dr. Gulab Singh Azad emphasized that due to various natural disasters, thousands of people across the country are being severely affected, making mental health an essential issue today. He stated that mental health is just as important as physical health. Dr. Azad pointed out the rapidly increasing cases of depression and anxiety, especially among the youth. Introducing the topic, he discussed various mental disorders, their symptoms, and causes. He cited lack of awareness as a major reason behind poor mental health and noted that proper treatment can cure mental illnesses. Dr. Azad further explained that stigma, ignorance, and lack of resources are leading to rising mental health problems. Identifying symptoms and proper diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment. Referring to the Bhagavad Gita, he emphasized the importance of control over the mind for maintaining good mental health. He elaborated on focus, tendencies, daily routine, and habits. Discussing Indian philosophy, he stated that the mind, consciousness, intellect, and ego form the foundation of personality. He suggested that self-suggestion and introspection are necessary to attain contentment in life. Dr. Azad advised students to stay in regular contact with their teachers for guidance, to cultivate their hobbies, and noted that a certain level of stress is necessary for success. He encouraged students to remain optimistic, self-reliant, and to avoid excessive expectations from others. Vice-Chancellor of Sona Devi University and certified clinical psychologist Dr. J.P. Mishra spoke on how we establish our lives and stressed the deep connection between mental and physical health. Discussing the dynamic aspects of the mind, he explained that all individuals are governed by id, ego, and superego. Talking about personality, he said adaptability is essential in life and that improving our mental health requires a shift in mindset. He emphasized the importance of maintaining balance in life and the need to be self-aware in this era of change. He concluded that right thinking is key to achieving success. On this special occasion, Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, said that mental health can be maintained by embracing Indian philosophy, civilization, and culture. Highlighting the global adoption of yoga for mental and physical well-being, he cited the example of people from Okinawa Island in Japan, who have maintained good health through a disciplined diet and physical labor. Cleanliness Drive Organized by NSS Unit of Sona Devi University, Ghatsila

Under the aegis of the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit at Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, Jharkhand, a “Cleanliness is Service” campaign was launched today. The Vice Chancellor, Dr. J.P. Mishra, symbolically initiated the campaign by participating in a cleanliness drive. The nationwide cleanliness campaign is being conducted enthusiastically from September 17 to October 2. The main objective of this initiative is to make the area open-defecation free and promote proper waste management. Under the guidance of Registrar Dr. Gulab Singh Azad, several NSS volunteers and students participated in the cleanliness drive across the university campus and in Kitadih village. Seva Parv Celebrated with Enthusiasm at Sona Devi University

Seva Parv was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Sona Devi University. In line with the directives of the central and state governments, the event was organized under the joint aegis of the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Jharkhand, and the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, IIT ISM Dhanbad, at the Vivekananda Auditorium of the university. The Divisional Forest Office, Jamshedpur, also extended its support in organizing this program. The keynote speaker, Professor Alok Sinha, Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, IIT ISM Dhanbad, outlined the purpose of the event, stating that it is aimed at raising awareness in society about environmental protection and climate change. He emphasized the need to engage people in activities like cleanliness drives, plantation, biodiversity conservation, and pollution control. The goal is to bring the concept of sustainable development to the public, promote collective efforts to protect forests, natural resources, and wildlife, and especially to involve citizens—particularly youth and students—in environmental service initiatives. Speaking on water quality and conservation, Professor Sinha highlighted that water is one of the most vital resources on Earth, and hence its efficient management is essential. He also stressed increasing community participation to tackle the challenges of climate change and emphasized that society must come forward to fulfill its responsibilities toward environmental conservation. Inauguration of Modern Technology-Equipped Computer Lab at Sona Devi University

At Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, the Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh today inaugurated the university’s computer lab. Present at the occasion were the Registrar of Sona Devi University, Prof. Dr. Gulab Singh Azad, and the Controller of Examinations, Mr. Mithilesh Singh. Addressing the students, Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh stated that the computer lab is equipped with modern technology. In the first phase, thirty systems have been installed. Mr. Singh also shared that AI-enabled digital boards will be installed in the university in the future. These computers are equipped with 12th-generation processors and 16 GB RAM, along with high-quality IPS screens. The current internet speed of 200 Mbps will be further increased. The computers come with graphics cards, allowing users to install and operate software as per their needs. Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh emphasized that this lab will be especially beneficial for computer science students. Through this lab, students of Sona Devi University will be able to learn technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and Cyber Security. Better training will help them in securing employment. They will also be able to learn subjects such as coding and machine learning. On this occasion, he encouraged the students to study diligently, assuring them that the university administration will continue to provide all necessary facilities from time to time.
