At Sona Devi University, the birth anniversary of the architect of the Constitution and Bharat Ratna, Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, was celebrated today.
On this occasion, Mr. Satyadev Ram, Principal of Government Polytechnic, Seraikela, attended as the chief guest. Encouraging the students, he said that Babasaheb faced untouchability from his childhood. Even during his school education, he was made to sit separately from other children, but he did not give up and transformed society through education. By acquiring knowledge, he established a distinct identity both in India and abroad. A scholar of many languages, Babasaheb wrote dozens of books and was an expert in economics.
Mr. Satyadev Ram stated that Babasaheb struggled throughout his life for social equality, rights, and the spread of education. He also ensured rights and respect for women, including granting them property rights. He added that it is because of Babasaheb that various provisions exist in educational institutions for girls’ education, including scholarships. Special provisions have also been made to support marginalized sections in education and to ensure equal opportunities in employment.
He further mentioned that Babasaheb introduced the idea of “equal pay for equal work,” which still needs proper implementation. Due to his progressive ideas, Babasaheb faced opposition even in his own country. He encouraged students to remain aware of their rights and explained the meaning of secularism. Emphasizing merit-based selection for important positions, he said that many constitutional provisions are still not being properly implemented, and accountability among teachers must also be ensured.
On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Dr. Braj Mohan Pat Pingua, said that the Constitution has bound us together in unity despite our diversity. We must remain united, and only by becoming strong can we create a new definition for ourselves.
Registrar Dr. Nit Nayna introduced the theme, while Assistant Professor of Political Science Dr. Shiv Chandra Jha expressed his views, stating that Babasaheb is a symbol of social justice. Despite adverse circumstances, he struggled and drafted the Indian Constitution. Ambedkar’s famous three-word slogan—“Educate, Agitate, Organize”—continues to inspire millions, embodying the essence of social justice, education, equality, and self-respect.
The program began with a ceremonial lamp lighting accompanied by Vedic chants. B.Pharm student Mousumi Mahato and Rumi Das presented a dance performance on the song “Veena Vadini Var De,” dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. During the event, Electrical Engineering student Sanjana Munda and B.Sc. Agriculture student Anshu Kumari shared their thoughts about Babasaheb.
The program was jointly hosted by Assistant Registrar Archana Singh and Assistant Professor of Sanskrit Kumari Nikita. The vote of thanks was delivered by Assistant Professor of History Dr. Kanchan Sinha.
