World Earth Day 2026 – “Our Power, Our Planet”

On the occasion of World Earth Day 2026, the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-ISM) Dhanbad organized a dignified and inspiring program under the EIACP (PC-RP) Programme Centre, which was successfully conducted in collaboration with INSEARCH NGO Dhanbad. The primary objective of the event was to raise awareness about environmental conservation and to cultivate a sense of responsibility among the youth.

On this occasion, the Chancellor of Sona Devi University Ghatsila, Hon’ble Mr. Prabhakar Singh, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, he emphasized that “maintaining balance with nature is the greatest responsibility of human life.” He urged scholars and students to make environmental protection an integral part of their lives through small yet meaningful efforts such as planting more trees, reducing plastic usage, and conserving energy.

As part of the program, an educational visit was also organized for students from various faculties of Sona Devi University, Ghatsila—School of Engineering, School of Science (Biotechnology), School of Pharmacy, and School of Agriculture. The purpose of this visit was to encourage intellectual and creative development, stimulate curiosity for innovation, and enrich students with practical and experiential learning.

Under the leadership of Mrs. Pooja Tiwari, Head of the Engineering Department, students including Shabbir Ahmad, Khushi Kumari, Pragya Kumari, Vansh Agrawal, Manwar Bera, and Sayantan Paul actively participated. From the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Assistant Professor Sayan Banerjee led students such as Laxmi Murmu, Sandeep Singh, Shubhadeep, Saurav, Suraj Singh, and Falguni Giri. Additionally, under the guidance of Sonal Kumari, students including Supriya Ghosh, Dipesh Kumar Nayak, Chris Goswami, Sheikh Mohammad Ibrahim, Abhijeet Kumar, and Bipasha Nayak enthusiastically took part in the program.

On this occasion, the Registrar of the university, Dr. Nit Nayana, stated in her address that such educational visits are highly beneficial for the holistic development of students and significantly strengthen their practical and experiential knowledge. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Braj Mohan Pat Pingua, appreciated the initiative and remarked that such programs not only develop environmental sensitivity but also inspire students to become responsible and aware citizens.

The program witnessed active and enthusiastic participation from faculty members, researchers, and a large number of students. At the conclusion of the event, all participants collectively pledged to continue their efforts toward Earth conservation and to play an active role in maintaining environmental balance.

This event proved to be a significant step toward promoting environmental awareness while strengthening students’ sense of social responsibility and commitment to sustainable development.
