Sona Devi University Organizes Program on the Occasion of National Technology Day

“India’s future will be shaped by young researchers” – Prabhakar Singh, Chancellor, Sona Devi University

A special program was organized today at the Vivekananda Auditorium of Sona Devi University on the occasion of National Technology Day. The event was jointly organized by the SDU School of Engineering & Technology and the SDU School of IT & Computer Science.

On this occasion, the Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Prabhakar Singh, encouraged all faculty members and students present in the auditorium and stated that failure is essential for achieving success. He urged students to develop products keeping in mind the needs of society. Explaining the meaning of “product” through several examples of digitalization, he motivated students toward research, innovation, and technological advancement in the fields of science and technology.

He also suggested discussing the utility and role of science and technology in the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Highlighting the importance of deep-tech startups and deep-tech sovereignty, Mr. Singh encouraged students to solve global problems through technology. Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement, he said that India’s future would be shaped by young researchers. He further mentioned the support being provided by the central government and the private sector in the field of research and innovation. He added that institutions such as the Annual Research Foundation also provide financial assistance, and cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai are emerging as major startup hubs.

Registrar of Sona Devi University, Dr. Nit Nayana, emphasized the importance of science, technology, and innovation by referring to the Chenab Rail Bridge, ISRO’s Chandrayaan-III mission, and the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech.

Head of the SDU School of Electrical Engineering, Pooja Tiwari, stated that National Technology Day is celebrated in honor of the country’s scientists and engineers. She explained that the day has been observed every year since 11 May 1999 following India’s successful nuclear tests. She added that the day is dedicated to all scientists and engineers contributing to the fields of science and technology. She also expressed her thoughts on science and technology through a poem.

During the event, Assistant Professor Anal Bera from the CSE Department shared his views on quantum computing, while Assistant Professor Patotri Mali from the School of Agricultural Science spoke about agrotech and highlighted the importance of science and technology in the agricultural sector.

B.Tech CSE student Manav Bera delivered a PowerPoint presentation describing AI as essential for the future and also spoke about the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. BCA student Jaya Kumari also gave a PPT presentation on AI and automation.

Sanjana Munda, a diploma student in Electrical Engineering, stated that technology is powerful, but the human mind is even more powerful.

The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and concluded with the National Anthem. Head of the Department of Management, Monica Singh, delivered the vote of thanks.
