Sports Infrastructure at Sona Devi University

 

Sona Devi University offers a wide array of sports facilities catering to both recreational and competitive needs, designed to enhance fitness and well-being for students and faculty.

Outdoor Sports Facilities

  • Athletics Track: A dedicated track for sprints and long-distance running.
  • Shot Put, Discus, and Javelin Throw Areas: Specialized areas for field events.
  • Football Ground: A professional-grade football field for practice and matches.
  • Basketball Court: Outdoor court for training and tournaments.
  • Tennis Courts: Courts for recreational and competitive tennis.
  • Cricket Ground: Full-size cricket ground suitable for inter-university and local competitions.

Indoor Sports Facilities

  • Chess: Dedicated spaces for tournaments and casual play.
  • Carrom: Tables for recreational and competitive carrom.
  • Skipping: Areas for skipping and individual fitness activities.
  • Ludo: Spaces for traditional indoor games like Ludo.

Additional Wellness Programs

Key Events and Celebrations

Sona Devi University organizes several sports and wellness events annually to foster community involvement, healthy competition, and overall well-being.
  1. Pharmacy Day Sports Competition (September 21, 2024)
  2. A friendly competition for B. Pharm and D. Pharm students, featuring chess and carrom competitions.
    • Winners:
      • Chess: Kaushlendra Kumar Yadav and Aparna (B. Pharm)
      • Carrom: Jaydev and Aparna

  3. Yoga Event (December 9, 2024)
  4. A special yoga session conducted by Gayatri Family, Haridwar, promoting mental and physical wellness for students and staff.

    • Annual Sports Festival (December 10-12, 2024)
    • A three-day festival featuring events like 200-meter races, shotput, discus throw, kabaddi, and badminton, bringing together students, faculty, and staff for athletic events.
      • Guests of Honor: Hon’ble Shri Prabhakar Singh, Chancellor, and Dr. Gulab Singh Azad, Registrar.

    • National Celebrations – Parade and Pyramid Programs
    • On Republic Day (January 26) and Independence Day (August 15), SDU hosts parades and pyramid performances to celebrate national pride and unity.

      • International Yoga Day (June 21, 2025)
      • To mark International Yoga Day, a yoga session will be held with active participation from students and faculty. The event will be recognized by the Ministry of Ayush, and the university will be awarded the Yoga Sangam Patra Certificate.

      Sports and Yoga Incharge: Mrs. Komal Kumari – Sports Instructor

      Mrs. Komal Kumari is the Sports and Yoga Incharge at Sona Devi University. With a lifelong passion for yoga and sports, Mrs. Kumari has been trained at the Yoga Mitron Mandal in Munger from 2007 to 2012. She pursued BPED studies, actively participating in various sports and gaining comprehensive knowledge in fitness and sports activities.

      Her responsibilities include:

      • Coordinating sports events, yoga sessions, and wellness programs.
      • Managing sports infrastructure, ensuring that all resources are available and accessible.
      • Organizing training programs and workshops to improve students’ fitness levels.
      • Promoting the importance of mental and physical health through workshops and communications.

      Mrs. Kumari’s leadership ensures that all sports and wellness activities are executed effectively, encouraging the university community to engage in a healthy lifestyle.

      Future Goals and Enhancements

      Sona Devi University is committed to enhancing its sports and wellness offerings. Our future goals include:

      1. Development of New Facilities: Expansion of our infrastructure, including a swimming pool, indoor sports complex, and sports science lab.
      2. Expansion of Wellness Programs: Introduction of more fitness classes, mental wellness workshops, and wellness retreats for the university community.
      3. International Collaborations: Partnering with global sports organizations to provide students with international competition opportunities.
      4. Sustainability Initiatives: Implementing eco-friendly practices in sports events and programs, utilizing renewable energy and sustainable materials for facilities.
