Cleanliness Drive Organized by NSS Unit of Sona Devi University, Ghatsila

Under the aegis of the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit at Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, Jharkhand, a “Cleanliness is Service” campaign was launched today. The Vice Chancellor, Dr. J.P. Mishra, symbolically initiated the campaign by participating in a cleanliness drive. The nationwide cleanliness campaign is being conducted enthusiastically from September 17 to October 2. The main objective of this initiative is to make the area open-defecation free and promote proper waste management.

Under the guidance of Registrar Dr. Gulab Singh Azad, several NSS volunteers and students participated in the cleanliness drive across the university campus and in Kitadih village. The event aimed to raise awareness among students, faculty, and the rural community about cleanliness and environmental protection. As part of the campaign, efforts were made to transform the university into a completely plastic-free campus, with students cleaning the premises collectively.

A clean environment not only fosters a healthy academic atmosphere but also sends an exemplary message to society. NSS volunteers also educated villagers in Kitadih about maintaining cleanliness, discussing topics like the harmful effects of plastic, diseases caused by filth, and waste management. Rallies were held in the villages, inspiring children and youth to make cleanliness a part of their daily lives.

The campaign not only involved cleaning activities but also emphasized that cleanliness is not just the government’s responsibility—it is the duty of every citizen. NSS Coordinator Dr. Shivchandra Jha, along with students Aman Das, Kumari Khushi, and their peers, participated enthusiastically in the initiative.
