Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at Sona Devi University

Introduction

At Sona Devi University, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) was established in 2023 with the primary objective of enhancing the overall quality of academic, administrative, and support functions. The IQAC is dedicated to ensuring continuous improvement in the university’s performance, aligning with both national and international standards. The cell is committed to promoting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and administrative practices, and serves as a central unit for evolving systems that guarantee continuous quality enhancement across the university.

Collaboration with Accreditation Bodies

The IQAC actively works in collaboration with national regulatory bodies such as the University Grants Commission (UGC), National Board of Accreditation (NBA), and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), among others. The cell ensures the university’s compliance with the latest guidelines and standards set by these bodies, with a focus on maintaining academic integrity and quality assurance at all levels.

The UGC has been continuously updating accreditation procedures, including transitioning from the traditional binary system of accreditation to a more dynamic system based on levels (e.g., Level 1 to Level 5), as seen with NAAC’s new accreditation pattern. This transition aims to provide institutions with a more nuanced evaluation based on factors such as academic performance, research output, infrastructure, and community impact.

Furthermore, online evaluations and monitoring systems are becoming increasingly prevalent, which allows for more efficient assessments and real-time tracking of quality indicators, contributing to a more transparent and efficient process. The IQAC works to ensure that Sona Devi University adheres to these evolving standards, be it in online evaluation systems or offline assessments initiated by the Ministry of Education or NAAC.

Key Responsibilities and Objective

  1. Enhancing Quality Standards: The IQAC is committed to establishing a culture of quality across all areas, including academic programs, research activities, and administrative practices. By ensuring that these standards are in line with the latest national and international trends, the IQAC aims to foster academic excellence while continuously improving teaching and learning

  2. Curriculum Development & Pedagogical Innovation:  The IQAC plays a key role in facilitating the development of an up-to-date curriculum that is aligned with industry trends and emerging educational methodologies. The cell also promotes the use of innovative teaching techniques, such as blended learninginteractive teaching, and technology-driven education, to meet the diverse learning needs of students.

  3. Continuous Monitoring & Evaluation: The IQAC ensures that academic programs undergo regular monitoring, self-assessments, and feedback reviews. In collaboration with NAAC and UGC, the IQAC conducts internal audits and aligns the university’s standards with the evolving accreditation criteria. This includes both online and offline evaluations, depending on the requirements of government regulations or accreditation agencies.

  4. Stakeholder Engagement: The IQAC emphasizes the importance of engaging stakeholders such as students, faculty, staff, and industry partners in the quality assurance process. This involvement ensures that academic and administrative programs align with both student expectations and industry needs.

  5. Quality Assurance in Research: The IQAC promotes research-driven innovation by supporting faculty and students in publishing research in reputed journals, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and encouraging the commercialization of research that benefits society. The cell works to create a supportive ecosystem for high-quality research outputs that meet global standards.

  6. Accreditation & Compliance: The IQAC is responsible for ensuring that the university meets the criteria set by national and international accrediting bodies, such as NAAC and NBA. The cell works on preparing the university for accreditation reviews, ensuring that all academic and administrative processes meet standardized benchmarks. The IQAC ensures that the university remains compliant with UGC guidelines, NAAC’s new levels of accreditation, and other evolving frameworks.

  7. Professional Development & Capacity Building: The IQAC promotes continuous professional development through faculty training programs, staff workshops, and student development initiatives. The aim is to equip the university community with the skills and knowledge needed to meet the evolving educational standards set by regulatory bodies.

Vision for the Future

The IQAC at Sona Devi University envisions a quality-centric approach where continuous growth, academic integrity, and research excellence are at the heart of all activities. The cell will adapt to emerging global trends in education and continue to work in close collaboration with accreditation agencies like NAAC and UGC to ensure that the university maintains the highest quality standards.
