“Hindi is not merely a language; it is a powerful carrier of Indian identity, culture and knowledge traditions”: Chancellor Shri Prabhakar Singh
The grand and dignified closing ceremony-cum-seminar of Hindi Pakhwada–2026, organized at Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, with the objective of strengthening a sense of respect, pride and affinity towards the Hindi language and encouraging its widespread, practical and creative use, was held in an enthusiastic atmosphere at the university’s Swami Vivekananda Auditorium.
The ceremony featured extensive discussions on the literary and cultural significance of Hindi, as well as its growing relevance and potential in education, administration, technology, communication, research, official work, and modern knowledge and science.
The event was graced by University Chancellor Shri Prabhakar Singh, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Braj Mohan Pat Pingua, Registrar Dr. Nit Nayana, heads of various departments, faculty members, non-teaching staff, students, writers, journalists, educationists, and distinguished guests from various institutions. Participants who performed exceptionally well in various literary, academic and creative competitions organized during Hindi Pakhwada were honored with certificates at the ceremony.
Auspicious Beginning with Saraswati Vandana and Lamp Lighting
The ceremony commenced with Saraswati Vandana, conducted by Ms. Kumari Nikita, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit, who skillfully anchored the event. This was followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and floral offerings before the portrait of Goddess Saraswati by the dignitaries and university officials.
The invocation of Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge and learning, along with the ceremonial lamp lighting, added spiritual and cultural dignity to the occasion.
Thereafter, Dr. Sangeeta Choudhary, Head of the Department of Music, presented a welcome song to greet all the guests. Her melodious performance created a warm and emotional atmosphere in the auditorium.
On the occasion, the chief guest, distinguished guests and other dignitaries were felicitated by the university with angavastram, saplings and copies of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. Through this gesture, the university conveyed a message of respect for Indian traditions, knowledge culture and environmental conservation.
“Hindi Must Become a Part of Life and Work Culture”: Registrar
In her welcome address, Dr. Nit Nayana, Registrar of the University, welcomed all the guests and emphasized the need for the practical and extensive use of Hindi. She stated that Hindi should not be confined merely to being a subject or a language of literature; rather, it should become an integral part of life and work culture.
She said that the true strength of any language lies in its continuous and widespread use. If the use of Hindi increases in education, administration, official work, research, technology, communication and everyday interactions, Hindi will become an even stronger and more effective language.
The Registrar also provided detailed information about the academic activities of Sona Devi University, expansion of academic disciplines, agreements signed with national and international universities, the university’s infrastructure and the academic facilities available to students.
Call to Develop a Sense of Pride and Respect for Hindi
Dr. Prasanjeet Tiwari, Honorary Secretary of Tulsi Bhavan, Jamshedpur, highlighted the social and cultural role of Hindi. He stated that India’s linguistic diversity is one of its unique identities and that Hindi plays an important role in establishing communication among people from different regions and communities.
He called upon everyone to develop a sense of pride and respect for Hindi and to connect the younger generation with the rich literary and cultural traditions of the language.
He said that language is not merely a medium for exchanging ideas; it also carries a society’s culture, traditions, memories and emotions from one generation to another.
“Hindi is the Language of Affection, Values and Culture”: Dr. Vinay Kumar Pandey
Dr. Vinay Kumar Pandey, eminent journalist, accomplished writer and extempore poet, spoke about the importance of Hindi and remembered great Hindi literary figures, including Maithili Sharan Gupt.
He said that Hindi is the language of affection, values and culture, and that the progress of the nation is closely connected with the development of its own language.
Addressing the students, he encouraged them to become aware of and inspired by Hindi. He stated that respect for one’s language connects an individual with their culture and roots. Through his poetry recitations, he conveyed the message of making Hindi a language of the masses. His performance generated considerable enthusiasm among the students and audience.
Important Role of Hindi in Journalism and Creative Expression
Dr. Jivendra Kumar Pandey, renowned journalist, writer and extempore poet, emphasized the importance of Hindi literature, journalism and creative expression.
He stated that language is a powerful medium for bringing society together and expressing ideas effectively. Highlighting the changing role of Hindi journalism and literature, he encouraged students to read, write and engage in creative expression in Hindi.
He said that the future of Hindi lies in the hands of the younger generation and that young people must take Hindi forward by connecting it with contemporary contexts.
Modern Communication Media Have Opened New Opportunities for Hindi: Dr. Sonam Gupta
Dr. Sonam Gupta, Doordarshan anchor, Ranchi, shared her views on the expansion of Hindi through electronic media and modern communication platforms.
She discussed the changing form of Hindi, modernity and its relevance in the technological era. She said that digital and electronic media have created new opportunities for the expansion of Hindi.
Today, Hindi is no longer confined to books and traditional media; through modern communication platforms, it is reaching different parts of the world. She also highlighted the relationship between the warmth of human communication and the rich traditions of Hindi.
Emphasis on the Use of Hindi in Official and Practical Life
Shri Pramod Ranjan Pandey, retired manager, Indian Oil, Ranchi, highlighted the importance of using Hindi in official and practical life.
He said that regardless of where a person lives in the world, they should continue to use Hindi in their everyday conversations and professional interactions.
He emphasized that promoting the use of Hindi in technical and professional fields can make work more accessible and people-friendly. Using one’s own language also helps strengthen cultural and linguistic identity.
Poetic and Cultural Performances Captivate the Audience
Literary and cultural performances added a special attraction to the ceremony.
Dr. Lata Mankar, Principal, S.S.A. Academy, Jamshedpur, presented Saraswati Vandana followed by a poetry recital.
Dr. Ravikant Shubham, Secretary, Oj, Chatra, presented patriotic poetry remembering the great revolutionary and freedom fighter Khudiram Bose and other brave heroes of India’s freedom struggle. His performance further strengthened the spirit of patriotism and national pride in the auditorium.
Mrs. Poonam Singh Vatsala conveyed messages of love, harmony, sensitivity and social cohesion through songs, romantic poetry and ghazals. Her heartfelt performance deeply moved the audience.
Meanwhile, Janab Sahib Nambazdi expressed the sensitivity, beauty and diversity of Hindi through his poetry and conveyed a message of promoting Hindi and developing a sense of respect for the language.
Emphasis on Correct Writing and Grammar
Dr. Naresh Kumar, Principal, ABM College, Jamshedpur, emphasized the need to enhance the dignity and respect of Hindi and urged students to pay special attention to Hindi grammar and correct writing.
He stated that the effectiveness of a language increases through its accurate and proper use. He encouraged students to read and write in Hindi and to express their thoughts effectively.
He further said that command over a language strengthens an individual’s confidence and ability to communicate effectively.
Outstanding Participants of Hindi Pakhwada Competitions Honored
During Hindi Pakhwada–2026, various literary, academic, linguistic and creative competitions were organized at the university. Students, teachers and staff members participated enthusiastically in these activities.
During the closing ceremony, participants who performed exceptionally well in various competitions were presented with certificates and honored for their achievements. Their talent and creativity were appreciated, and they were encouraged to remain actively involved in Hindi-related activities in the future.
Prof. Jung Bahadur Pandey Delivers Insightful Lecture on “Hindi is the Gateway to the World”
The highlight of the ceremony was the insightful and informative lecture delivered by Prof. Jung Bahadur Pandey, former Head of the Department of Hindi, Ranchi University, on the topic “Hindi is the Gateway to the World.”
Prof. Pandey elaborated on the rich literary tradition of Hindi, its widespread acceptance, vast vocabulary and growing global presence.
He stated that Hindi is not merely a medium of communication but also a carrier of knowledge, sensitivity, culture, thought and the Indian worldview.
He familiarized the students with the richness of Hindi vocabulary and its vast expressive capabilities, emphasizing that Hindi possesses immense potential for expressing knowledge and ideas effectively.
Referring to the creative legacy of great Hindi writers, including Suryakant Tripathi ‘Nirala’, he highlighted the social and cultural role of Hindi literature.
He said that the present era offers immense opportunities for Hindi. What is needed is a sustained effort to connect Hindi with modern technology, digital media, research, science, artificial intelligence and knowledge and scientific disciplines, and to take the language forward.
He emphasized that continuous efforts are essential to establish Hindi as a language of modern knowledge creation.
