At Sona Devi University’s Vivekananda Auditorium, Mr. Sunil Chandra, Sub-Divisional Officer of Ghatsila Subdivision and Electoral Officer, provided information to students about the preparations for the upcoming Assembly by-election in the Ghatsila constituency. He explained that due to the sudden demise of honorable Ramchandra Soren, this Assembly seat became vacant. According to constitutional provisions, a seat cannot remain vacant for more than six months; hence, preparations for the Assembly by-election have been initiated by the administration as per the rules.
The Electoral Officer informed that voters whose names are already on the voter list should check their details once again. Young people who will turn 18 years of age by July 1, 2025, can apply to have their names included in the voter list. Voters who want to correct any errors in their voter list can also apply by filling out the appropriate forms.
Mr. Sunil Chandra urged the students that conducting free, fearless, and peaceful elections is the responsibility of all. He said that students of Sona Devi University can act as brand ambassadors in the Ghatsila Assembly by-elections (Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe). They should encourage people in their respective areas to ensure their participation in the voting process and raise awareness among voters.
Students were also informed about how to register their names online in the voter list. Information about the Election Commission of India’s ‘National Voter Service Portal’ was shared.
On this occasion, the Electoral Officer administered an oath to all voters present in the auditorium to actively participate in the voting process and exercise their voting rights.
