A special program was organized at the Ghatsila campus of Sona Devi University today on the occasion of Diwali and Chhath Puja to enlighten students about the significance of sun worship. Held at the university’s Vivekananda Auditorium, the event aimed to convey the spiritual and cultural importance of Chhath Puja and the reverence of the Sun God.
The program commenced with a traditional invocation and worship of Chhath Mata and Lord Surya (Sun God), introducing students to the rituals and significance of the festival. On this occasion, students, teachers, and staff members sang various devotional songs dedicated to Chhath, expressing their faith, enthusiasm, and devotion through prayer and participation.
As part of the cultural segment of the event, students gave captivating performances, including the rendition of several folk songs related to Chhath. In celebration of the Diwali fair, several food stalls were set up by students, offering delicious traditional dishes for all to enjoy.
Vice Chancellor Dr. J.P. Mishra extended warm wishes for Diwali and Chhath Puja to all officials, staff, and students, wishing them good health and well-being. Speaking on the occasion, the Chancellor highlighted the importance of such festivals in maintaining a strong connection with nature, family, and faith. He emphasized the need to use indigenous products during festivals, which would not only strengthen the ‘Swadeshi’ (Made in India) and ‘Developed India’ movements but also boost the nation’s economy. He noted that promoting small and medium enterprises would enable the country to navigate global tariff wars more effectively.
He further added that along with building a developed India, it is essential to strive for a prosperous India, which requires self-reliance. He urged everyone to make a conscious effort to use indigenous products during the Diwali festivities.
Registrar Prof. Dr. Gulab Singh Azad expressed gratitude to all the participants involved in organizing the event. He mentioned that such events offer an opportunity for those drifting away from cultural roots to reconnect with the country’s rich heritage.
It is worth noting that Sona Devi University has declared a holiday from October 20 to October 28 on the occasion of Diwali and Chhath Puja. All regular operations of the university will resume from October 29.
