An awareness program was organized today at Sona Devi University, Ghatsila on the occasion of World Environment Day. A special awareness session was held at the Vivekananda Auditorium of the university. Addressing the students, Vice Chancellor Dr. Braj Mohan Pat Pingua said that everyone must work seriously towards protecting the environment. He emphasized the need to completely stop the use of plastic at the individual level and work actively towards energy conservation.
Registrar Dr. Nit Nayana informed that, in accordance with the directives of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Sona Devi University will organize daily awareness programs on different themes related to environmental protection from May 15 to May 23.
The Registrar further stated that under the Mission LiFE activities during the pre-campaign for World Environment Day (WED) 2026, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) is conducting a nationwide pre-campaign from May 15, 2026 to June 5, 2026. The theme of World Environment Day 2026 is “Climate Change”, with the primary objective of promoting environmentally sustainable lifestyles and encouraging “pro-planet actions” across institutions and communities.
In line with this initiative, Sona Devi University, Ghatsila will conduct daily awareness programs from May 15 to May 23 focusing on environmental conservation. The campaign areas include energy conservation, water conservation, saying “No” to single-use plastics, reducing waste and e-waste, adopting healthy lifestyles, and promoting environmental protection and green cover.
The university campus will also conduct sustainability-related drives with special emphasis on energy conservation, water conservation, waste management, and reduction of e-waste.
