On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, the Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Ghatsila Campus, Shri Prabhakar Singh, hoisted the national flag. Addressing the gathering, he said that everyone must work together in the national interest. He mentioned that this is the third year the festival has been celebrated on the university campus. Explaining the meaning of a republic, he said it signifies governance by the people. Referring to the contributions of Ram Manohar Lohia, Shri Singh emphasized the importance of freedom of expression and urged everyone to remain aware and collectively work towards the progress of the nation. On this occasion, the Registrar, Dr. Nit Nayana, addressed the assembled group and stated that on Republic Day, everyone should take a pledge to work with dedication and honesty and play their role in taking the country forward. Assistant Professor of the Psychology Department, Dr. Nibha Shukla, informed the students that it was on this very day that the Constitution of India came into force. Assistant Professor of the Mathematics Department, Dr. Krishnendu Dutta, filled the audience with patriotic fervor by singing the song “Mera Mulk Mera Desh.” A large number of university staff members, assistant professors, heads of departments, and students were present on the university campus during the event.

Jamshedpur, January 25:In the memory of Late Sona Devi, an eye camp was organized by the Sona Devi Memorial Educational Foundation Trust in collaboration with Sona Devi University. During the operation session of the camp, eye specialists Dr. B. B. Singh, Dr. Bharti Sharma, Dr. Poonam Singh, Dr. Vinayak, along with their supporting medical team, successfully performed eye surgeries and lens implantation on 37 patients. Earlier, the operation session was inaugurated by cutting the ribbon at the operation theatre by Sona Devi University Chancellor Prabhakar Singh, Honorary Secretary of Indian Red Cross Society, East Singhbhum, Vijay Kumar Singh, and social worker Chandramohan Singh. On this occasion, active Red Cross members Rajesh Gupta, Rakesh Mishra, and Aditya Singh were prominently present. During the operation session, Red Cross volunteers Ashish Kumar, Raju Bind, Ashok Kumar Ghoshal, Ashok Singh, and Pratik Singh played an important role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the program. On January 26, Republic Day, the patients who underwent surgery will be discharged after being provided with spectacles, medicines, and blankets. On this occasion, Jamshedpur West MLA Shri Saryu Rai will attend the program as the Chief Guest.

Jamshedpur, January 24:In memory of late Sona Devi, the 803rd eye camp was inaugurated on January 24 at Ram Manohar Lohia Eye Hospital, located at Bagbera Thana Chowk, Jamshedpur. The camp is being organized from January 24 to 26 under the aegis of the Sona Devi Memorial Educational Foundation Trust, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, East Singhbhum, Ram Manohar Lohia Eye Hospital, with support from Dropadi Devi Chimanlal Bhalotia Family Trust, Rajasthan Seva Sadan, and the District Rural Health Committee. The camp commenced today with eye examinations of patients. Ophthalmologists Dr. B. P. Singh and Dr. Vinayak examined 120 patients, out of which 40 patients suffering from hyper-mature cataracts were selected for surgery and intraocular lens implantation. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Camp Convener Prabhakar Singh, Chairman of Sona Devi Memorial Educational Foundation Trust and Chancellor of Sona Devi University; Krishna Murari Gupta, Chairman of Matukdhari Lal Krishna Murari Charitable Trust; and social worker Ganesh Rao as the chief guests. The camp is being conducted under the supervision of Vijay Kumar Singh, Honorary Secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society, East Singhbhum. He informed that the selected patients will undergo cataract surgery and lens implantation on Sunday, January 25, at the newly constructed operation theatre of Ram Manohar Lohia Eye Hospital. The surgeries will be performed by ophthalmologists Dr. B. P. Singh, Dr. Bharti Sharma, Dr. Poonam Singh, Dr. Vivek Kedia, Dr. Malay Dwivedi, along with their supporting medical team. The successful conduct of today’s screening session was supported by volunteers Rakesh Mishra, Ashok Kumar Ghoshal, Ashok Kumar Singh, Ashish Singh, Radheshyam Kumar, Prakash Bhanu Mahato, and Shyam Kumar, who played a key role in the arrangements.

With the support of Sona Devi Memorial Educational Foundation Trust and Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, a Netra Jyoti Yagya (Eye Light Camp) has been organized in the sacred memory of Late Sona Devi. In this eye medical camp, eye patients will receive free eye treatment, and free eye surgeries with lens implantation will also be performed. Renowned doctors Dr. B. P. Singh, Dr. Poonam Singh, Dr. Bharti Sharma, Dr. Vivek Kedia, and Dr. Anand Sushrut will examine the eyes of patients on 24 January 2026. Based on medical requirements, eye surgeries along with lens implantation will be carried out on 25 January 2026. On 26 January, all treated patients will be respectfully discharged in the afternoon after completion of their treatment. This eye medical camp is being organized at Ram Manohar Lohia Netralaya, Bagbera, Jamshedpur, with the cooperation of the Indian Red Cross Society, East Singhbhum. On this occasion, the Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Shri Prabhakar Singh, said that to move ahead in life, one must be serious about education. Remembering the late Education Minister Ramdas Soren, he said that Ramdas Soren supported him at every step and his dream of educating students of this region will surely be fulfilled.Shri Singh also informed that apart from the government’s E-Kalyan Scheme, Sona Devi University is running its own SDUSAT Scholarship Scheme. Under this scheme, students can complete their entire education by paying the fee of only one semester. He emphasized that no needy student’s education will now be discontinued due to financial constraints. The Chief Guest of Shankhnaad 2.0, Honorable Ghatshila MLA Shri Somes Chandra Soren, said that his father and former minister, late Ramdas Soren, wanted to make this region an educational hub. He mentioned that a degree college was established in Musabani by his father. He also said that his father had a deep love for languages and that Raghunath Murmu University would be established for linguistic education. Dr. Kanchan Sinha, Assistant Professor of History, shared insights into the history of Ghatshila. A blood donation camp was organized today, 22 December 2025, at the Vivekananda Auditorium of Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, in the sacred memory of Late Mother Smt. Sona Devi Ji. This mega blood donation camp successfully collected a total of 103 units of blood. The Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Shri Prabhakar Singh, also donated blood himself and encouraged all participants. Many respected citizens from the Ghatsila region voluntarily participated in the camp. University officials, staff members, and a large number of students from Sona Devi University also actively donated blood. On this occasion, Ms. Kumari Nikita, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit, addressed common myths related to blood donation and raised awareness among the people. She motivated everyone to donate blood and explained that any healthy person, whether male or female, can donate blood. She emphasized that blood donation improves the donor’s health, helps in the formation of new blood, strengthens immunity, and can save the life of someone in need. She further stated that every healthy person can donate blood at least four times a year and administered a pledge to the attendees to contribute regularly toward saving precious lives. The camp was organized under the aegis of the Sona Devi Memorial Educational Foundation Trust, with the cooperation of the Indian Red Cross Society, East Singhbhum, Jamshedpur, and the Jamshedpur Blood Center. All donors were first registered, followed by hemoglobin testing. Only those with appropriate hemoglobin levels were allowed to donate blood after a blood pressure check.
