Ghatsila, Jamshedpur, September 11, 2024 – Sona Devi University, in association with LIC officials, organized a tree plantation drive under the initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. The event aimed at environmental conservation and honoring the selfless love and sacrifice of mothers, took place in the lush campus of Sona Devi University, Ghatsila. The plantation drive witnessed the active participation of the university’s Chancellor, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, Vice-Chancellor Dr. J.P. Mishra, Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Gulab Singh ‘Azad’, faculty members, students, and the LIC team. Together, they planted a variety of saplings, which included fruit-bearing trees, ornamental plants, and medicinal species, symbolizing life, growth, and nurturing – qualities synonymous with motherhood. Mr. Anil Kumar, Senior Officer at LIC, stated, “This initiative, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, holds immense emotional and environmental significance. Every tree planted today represents the nurturing and life-giving spirit of motherhood and our collective responsibility towards Mother Earth.” The students of Sona Devi University were enthusiastic participants, pledging to take care of the planted saplings and ensuring their growth in the years to come. Additionally, he discussed how to measure variance between two variables and conduct hypothesis testing. He also touched on correlation and determining the significance level. Dr. Mrinal elaborated on the normal distribution curve as well. The workshop began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh welcomed the keynote speaker Dr. N. R. On September 5, 2024, Teacher’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm, excitement, and warmth by the students at Sona Devi University, Ghatshila, East Singhbhum. The students welcomed their teachers by applying traditional tilak with roli, chandan, and kumkum, offering them flower bouquets and respectfully presenting gifts. After the lamp lighting and Ganesh Vandana, the students organized a variety of colorful and entertaining programs, including dance, music, singing, poetry recitations, speeches, and poster presentations. The event was graced by the presence of the Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, Vice-Chancellor Dr. J.P. Mishra, Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Gulab Singh ‘Azad’, Controller of Examinations Mr. Mithilesh Singh, along with principals, professors, faculty members of all departments, and a large number of students. The program was excellently hosted by first-year student Shubhadip Karji. Among the speakers were students Kaushalendra, Kashish Lala, and Mousumi Das, who spoke in detail about the importance of Teacher’s Day, the necessity of teachers, the significance of the Guru, and highlighted the life and contributions of the great thinker, renowned teacher, and philosopher, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Faculty speakers included Prof. Monica Singh from the School of Management, who praised Dr. Radhakrishnan’s immense contributions to education, and Prof. Pooja Tiwari from the School of Engineering and Technology, who spoke about Dr. Radhakrishnan’s role in uplifting Indian culture, politics, religion, philosophy, and strengthening the foundations of democracy. Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh, in his speech, highlighted the profound thoughts of Dr. Radhakrishnan and defined a teacher as someone who transfers strength from one soul to another. He emphasized that teachers deserve respect and dishonoring them is akin to neglecting development. He advised the students that to gain their teacher’s love, respect, and knowledge, and to become disciples like Arjuna and Aruni, they must remain humble, curious, hardworking, service-oriented, and faithful. Vice-Chancellor Dr. J.P. Mishra, in his address, told the students that they are the nation’s invaluable treasure and the future leaders of the country. Therefore, they must be disciplined, capable, cultured, and of high character. He stressed the importance of respecting and honoring their teachers, as it is the teachers who guide them from darkness to light, which is the need of the hour. Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Gulab Singh ‘Azad’ urged the students to learn some of the great qualities of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s life and character. He encouraged the students to emulate Dr. Radhakrishnan by overcoming challenges, working hard to become outstanding students, fulfilling their responsibilities effectively, loving their nation, and living a life of simplicity, humility, and continuous learning. He also urged the faculty members to adopt the qualities of a great teacher, such as hard work, affection for students, humility, faith in God, and become exemplary educators like Dr. Radhakrishnan. On September 2, 2024, Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, East Singhbhum, hosted the “Second Lecture Series by Distinguished Personalities.” The esteemed speaker for today’s series was His Grace Naam Prem Prabhu, a renowned spiritual leader and inspirational guide for the youth, and President of ISKCON, Dhanbad. The theme of today’s lecture was “Guidelines for Youth in Life Building and Character Formation and Suggestions for Their Role in Nation Building.” The event witnessed the presence of Sona Devi University’s Chancellor Shri Prabhakar Singh, Vice-Chancellor Prof. J.P. Mishra, Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Gulab Singh ‘Azad’, Controller of Examinations Shri Mithilesh Singh, various school/departments’ principals, professors, assistant professors, and a large number of students. Prof. (Dr.) Gulab Singh ‘Azad’, the Registrar of Sona Devi University, welcomed His Grace Naam Prem Prabhu with a shawl and a bouquet of flowers. These guidelines were drawn from the great texts of Indian culture, such as the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Mahabharata, and Upanishad. His Grace emphasized the importance of controlling the mind for progress and advancement. He stated that the mind plays a significant role in a person’s life, and to achieve holistic development, one must control the mind. For this, one must strengthen their intellect, enabling them to make decisions with insight, determination, and discernment. These elements of intellect guide individuals on the right path during moral dilemmas. He urged the youth to study good literature, draw inspiration from the lives of great personalities, engage in the company of good people, and practice self-control over their senses for their life building and character formation. He requested the youth to focus on their studies during these four or five crucial years and strive to inculcate good habits and noble human qualities into their personalities. On August 29, 2024, a “Lecture Series by Distinguished Personalities” was organized at Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, East Singhbhum. The speaker for today’s lecture series was Prof. (Dr.) Chandreshwar Khan, a renowned management guru from Jamshedpur, and the Kolhan region, and a former Senior Assistant General Manager at Tata Motors Limited, Jamshedpur. The theme of Prof. Khan’s lecture was “The Importance and Utility of Managerial Processes for Students and Faculty Members of Educational Institutions.” The event saw the presence of Sona Devi University’s Chancellor, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. J.P. Mishra, Registrar, Prof. (Dr.) Gulab Singh ‘Azad’, Controller of Examinations, Mr. Mithilesh Singh, principals of various schools/departments, professors, assistant professors, and a large number of students. The lecture was introduced by Dr. Nit Naina, a professor in the Biotechnology department, who briefly introduced Prof. Khan. In his highly inspiring and informative lecture, Prof. Khan explained the definition, importance, and relevance of management science to the students of Sona Devi University in a very engaging and practical manner, using examples. He emphasized the importance of setting goals in life, adopting the right processes, and efficiently utilizing resources. Today, the national festival of August 15th was celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy at Sona Devi University, Ghatsila. The event saw the participation of all students, faculty members, professors, staff, as well as the Honorable Chancellor of the University, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, Vice-Chancellor Dr. J.P. Mishra, Registrar Dr. Gulab Singh ‘Azad’, along with many distinguished guests, social reformers, and prominent personalities from the region. The program began with the Honorable Chancellor Mr. Prabhakar Singh hoisting the national flag, followed by the national anthem. A respectful tribute was then paid to all the heroes, great leaders, and martyrs of the freedom struggle, who liberated us from the exploitation, inhuman atrocities, and subjugation of the British. This was followed by a series of colorful performances, including mesmerizing dances, patriotic songs, speeches, plays, and essay competitions, organized by the students and faculty members of the university to mark this historic and auspicious occasion. Speaking on the theme of Independence Day, “Developed India,” the Honorable Chancellor, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, addressed the gathering, highlighting that today, India has secured a significant position among the developed nations of the world and has achieved comprehensive development in every sector of the economy. As a result, the country has earned and continues to earn immense respect and glory on the global stage. The Chancellor urged the students to cultivate a sense of respect for the nation, live with self-respect, and foster a spirit of patriotism and love for the country. He encouraged everyone to take a pledge to protect the unity and sovereignty of the nation. On this occasion, he asked the students to constantly strive to contribute as much as they can to the nation’s development, to prevent the wastage of the country’s resources, and to work towards making India the “Vishwa Guru” once again. Prof. Archana Singh from the Department of Agricultural Science inspired the students with her powerful speech, reminding them of the sacrifices of their ancestors. She emphasized the need to fulfill their dreams and desires and to repay their debt by restoring India’s former glory as the “Golden Bird,” “Vishwa Guru,” “Greatest Nation,” and the “Mother of Democracy.” In conclusion, Dr. Gulab Singh ‘Azad’, the Registrar of Sona Devi University, expressed gratitude to all the students, faculty members, and distinguished guests for their presence at the event. On August 8th, Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, hosted the Induction cum Orientation Program 2024. The event, was held at the Michael John Auditorium , Bistupur in Jamshedpur, warmly welcomed the new students for the academic session 2024-25, inspiring them to strive towards their set goals. The program featured Shri Premranjan, Regional Director of Jharkhand Industrial Area Development Authority (JIADA), Adityapur Region as the Chief Guest. In his address, he praised SDU for creating a conducive environment for quality education. He noted that the people of Ghatsila have always had valued education, and in today’s competitive world, the efforts to ignite the flame of learning in this region are commendable. He encouraged the students to focus on their goals while also working for the betterment of society. He advised them to use their strength to help the less fortunate, respect others’ opinions, and approach life with an open mind to ensure a brighter future. The event also saw Mr. U. N. Pathak, Chief Editor of Dainik Jagran, Jamshedpur as a Special Guest,who motivated the students to acquire comprehensive knowledge to secure good employment opportunities. “These four to five years at the university will be the most crucial period of your life. To succeed, complement your studies with well-rounded internships and practical knowledge,” he emphasized. Mr. Udit Agrawal, Editor of Uditvani, advised students to recognize and develop their abilities while maintaining originality in their work, as that is the key to success. Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, provided insights into the university’s academic activities and future plans. He acknowledged the support of many individuals in advancing the university and noted that this is just the humble beginning. “The measures of happiness and success vary in life,” he added, encouraging students to strive for both. Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) J.P. Mishra extended his best wishes for a bright future to the students, emphasizing that the goal should not just be to pass exams. “Adopt a practical approach to life, accept accountability, and continue working diligently to achieve success,” he advised. Registrar Dr. Gulab Singh Azad honored all the esteemed guests with mementos and shawls. The program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and a devotional Ganesh Vandana. Students of Sona Devi University performed Saraswati Vandana and showcased local art through group dances. The performance by Jamshedpur’s famous rock band “Band Safar” resonated with the youth, adding vibrancy to the event. A video message was also presented, highlighting the university’s activities, academic programs, and achievements. The event also introduced all faculty members, providing the attendees with a glimpse into SDU’s growing academic environment. Today, a tree plantation program was organized at Sona Devi University under the auspices of Sona Devi University and Ananddhara Mahila Samiti, Ghatsila. The program commenced with the dignified presence of the Honorable Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, Vice Chancellor Dr. J.P. Mishra, and the President of Ananddhara Mahila Samiti, Mrs. Beatrish Kachap, along with Vice President Mrs. Abha Sen, who initiated the event by planting trees. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr. J.P. Mishra highlighted the significance of tree plantation for environmental balance. He mentioned that it is a matter of pride that the forest percentage in our state of Jharkhand is satisfactory compared to other states. He emphasized the need to increase and improve this percentage, noting that forests ensure water, and water ensures life. The Chancellor of the University, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, urged the students and all present members to take responsibility for the care and protection of at least one plant and ensure its proper growth. He mentioned that witnessing their growth and fruition would bring immense joy and satisfaction. On this occasion, respected members of the Ananddhara Mahila Samiti, including Mrs. Shikha Rakhshit, Ratna Das, Daisy Rani, Dr. Ratna Mukherjee, Jyotsna Biswas, Bulbuli Sinha, Shubhra Rani, along with all the teachers and students of the university, planted medicinal plants such as Tulsi, Neem, and Amla, as well as various flowering and shady trees.
