An anti-drug awareness campaign was held today at the Vivekananda Auditorium of Sona Devi University, Ghatsila. The program was jointly organized by the District Administration of East Singhbhum, Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, and the Civil Defence & Meraki Organization, Jamshedpur. During the campaign, Rural Superintendent of Police Rishabh Garg highlighted that the adverse effects of drugs are affecting the youth the most. He urged university students to raise awareness in their local communities and encouraged them to report drug dealers to the Composite Control Room in Jamshedpur by calling 112. He also advised students to stay vigilant about synthetic drugs and motivated them to live drug-free lives and become responsible citizens. The Rural Superintendent of Police emphasized that the administration is working to make the region drug-free. Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Prabhakar Singh, addressed the students, informing them that effective treatment for drug addiction is available at the Central Institute of Psychiatry in Ranchi. He stressed that society must be sensitive towards addicts and approach them with empathy. Mr. Singh thanked the Meraki organization for collaborating with the university in organizing this awareness program. He added that along with empathy, proper rehabilitation arrangements should also be provided for drug addicts. He further discussed the guidelines issued by UGC and WHO for maintaining drug-free campuses in educational institutions. Secretary of Meraki Organization, Jamshedpur, Rita Patra, stated that the East Singhbhum district administration has been continuously running anti-drug campaigns for the past year. She mentioned that selected areas of Ghatsila would be targeted for awareness campaigns along with the university students. Vice President of Civil Defence, Dayashankar Mishra, highlighted the importance of citizen participation in safety and emergency assistance, mentioning that Civil Defence volunteers assist in emergencies in Bokaro and Jamshedpur. He also informed that Sona Devi University students would be trained as Civil Defence volunteers and educated about the MVI Act, POSCO Act, helping accident victims, and anti-drug initiatives. The campaign also included awareness sessions by Ghatsila Police Station in-charge Rajendra Munda and Mau Bhandar Station in-charge Neeraj Gupta. Mr. Munda noted that policing has improved significantly and encouraged citizens to approach the police without hesitation. He said every citizen contributing to national welfare is great. Mr. Gupta mentioned that drug trafficking activities are increasing in the state, and all sections of society must unite to counter them. The anti-drug awareness campaign at Sona Devi University began with a lamp-lighting ceremony and Ganesh Vandana. B. Pharma student Mousami Mahto performed a dance on Ganesh Vandana. Approximately 150 students participated in the visit along with their teachers. Headmistress Sunita Das, along with nine teachers, accompanied the students to the university campus. At the university, Registrar Dr. Nit Nayana guided the visit. Assistant Professors Princi Jha and Supriya Jha from the School of Commerce and Management provided an overview of Sona Devi University. Registrar Dr. Nit Nayana also shared detailed information about the various courses offered across different schools of the university. Assistant Registrar Archana Singh informed the students about other important activities conducted at the university, including NSS, sports, yoga and naturopathy, fine arts, and other academic engagements. Assistant Professor Dr. Neelmani Kumar interacted with the students and shared motivational insights, emphasizing the importance of time management, discipline, and concentration. He also advised students to set clear goals and prepare for their future accordingly. The students were given an opportunity to visit the university library as well as laboratories of various departments. A seminar on the topic “Regional Journalism in Developed India” was organized today at the Vivekananda Auditorium of Sona Devi University. Addressing the students, Mr. U.N. Pathak, Editor of Dainik Jagran, emphasized that news writing should always be based on facts and truth. The purpose of journalism is to serve public interest. He stated that one’s writing should not harm anyone’s dignity or defame individuals. He encouraged students to work with purpose and become the voice of the people. He further added that governance and administration must take responsibility for development work seriously. Only unbiased journalism can maintain credibility and trust. With rural populations now expecting development similar to urban areas, their aspirations must be fulfilled. He advised that while reporting, especially for digital platforms like YouTube, one should not present one-sided views but include perspectives from all sides before publishing news. Those who aspire to bring change through their writing are the ones building careers in journalism. He also emphasized that regional journalists should not limit themselves to routine news but must report on development-related issues and consistently follow up to create impact. Mr. Kavi Kumar, Editor of Azad Mazdoor, stated that regional journalism represents the voice of the last person in society. Without it, national development would not be possible. He highlighted that regional journalists work under challenging and sometimes risky conditions, and therefore, police and administration should ensure their safety. He shared his experiences and the history of newspapers in Jamshedpur with the students. He added that talent eventually receives recognition, though it may take time. Through examples, he explained how regional newspapers have highlighted important issues that were initially ignored by larger media houses. He advised students to listen to their conscience to avoid wrongdoing. He also donated two of his books to the university library. During the seminar, Mr. Rajesh Singh, Bureau Chief of Dainik Bhaskar, stated that determination is essential to remain credible in this field. He also noted that technological advancements have made journalistic work more efficient. Mr. Devanand Singh, Editor of Rashtr Samvad, said that being a regional journalist is a matter of fortune. He emphasized the importance of development journalism and the need for society to respect journalists. Mr. Ravi Prakash, Editor of Jharkhand News 24, shared practical insights on how major news developments receive continuous updates and are incorporated into reporting. Mr. Mantosh Mandal, Bureau Chief of Dainik Jagran, shared that regional journalists must act as the voice and leaders of the people. Understanding public issues is essential for writing impactful stories. Mr. Satyendra, Bureau Chief of Khabarmantra, highlighted the importance of understanding the background and challenges of journalism. Referring to P. Sainath, he said that the real story of India lies in its villages, and regional journalists bring these stories forward. He described journalism as a challenging yet rewarding career. Mr. Jaiprakash Rai, Editor of Ispat Mail, advised students to begin their journalism careers through newspapers and not to treat journalism merely as a means of employment. Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, welcomed the distinguished journalists and stated that journalists from Jharkhand are also counted among regional journalists. A group of students from Sona Devi University, under the leadership of two faculty members, participated in a one-day workshop held in Jamshedpur. Through this workshop, the students enhanced their knowledge and resolved to take initiatives toward environmental conservation and also raise awareness among others about protecting the environment. Students from B.Sc. Agriculture, the School of Pharmacy, and B.Tech programs of Sona Devi University took part in this workshop. The one-day workshop titled “Green Energy and Green Technology: The Future of Sustainable Development” was organized on March 14, 2026, by D.B.M.S. College of Education in Kadma, Jamshedpur. The objective of the workshop was to create awareness among students and academicians about the importance of renewable energy, environmentally friendly technologies, and sustainable development. The workshop provided a platform where experts, teachers, and students shared their ideas and experiences on protecting the environment and promoting sustainable practices.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the post-budget webinar on 9 March on the theme “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas – Fulfilling the Aspirations of the People.” The webinar included separate sessions on topics such as creating employment through education, AVGC content creator labs, women’s hostels for STEM, and the National Telescope Initiative. Members from more than one thousand institutions across the country participated in the webinar and shared their views. The main objective of these discussions was to consult with stakeholders from society and various operational sectors to transform the strategic reforms announced in the Union Budget into practical and result-oriented frameworks. The discussions emphasized future-ready curricula, pathways for skill development, and strengthening the innovation ecosystem. In line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, emphasis was also placed on strengthening the connection between education and employment, expanding workforce capabilities, and preparing students for future opportunities. The event was held at Vivekananda Auditorium, where Padma Shri Chutni Mahato attended as the Chief Guest. Addressing the audience in the auditorium, Chutni Mahato said that despite being uneducated, she has fought throughout her life against superstition and social evils such as the practice of branding women as witches (“Dayan”). She shared that she was once expelled from her own home by family members, but she moved forward leaving those experiences behind and continues to struggle for the rights of distressed women while providing them shelter. She said that any victimized woman can contact her and receive assistance. She also mentioned that she still visits police stations to collect information about cases registered related to witch-hunting. Earlier, the program began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Assistant Registrar Archana Singh welcomed all the guests and informed the audience about the various courses being run by Sona Devi University as well as its CSR activities. As a distinguished speaker, Advocate Mamta Singh extended greetings on International Women’s Day and emphasized that all women should be aware of laws related to women’s rights. She also spoke about gender equality, equal pay for equal work, and laws related to women’s safety at the workplace. Mamta Singh discussed constitutional rights and explained important laws such as the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, Dowry Prohibition Act, Domestic Violence Act, and the POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Act. She also reminded women of their responsibilities and stressed the importance of education, stating that the goal should not merely be obtaining degrees. Former Head of the Sanskrit Department of Kolhan University, Dr. Ragini Bhushan, raised the question of why there is a need to celebrate Women’s Day in India. Referring to Lord Shiva’s Ardhanarishvara form, she spoke about the concept of the five elements (Panchatatva). Explaining the idea of “Give to Gain,” she said that in the Vedic era women held a higher status than men. She also explained the meaning of the household system and Swayamvar. Sharing references from the Vedas and Puranas, Dr. Ragini stated that despite women being empowered in many ways, the question arises why Women’s Day became necessary. Answering her own question, she said that with changing circumstances certain arrangements were made to ensure women’s safety. Over time, several social evils emerged in history, the consequences of which were borne by women. She emphasized that women should now move from “women’s discourse” to “self-reflection.” She encouraged women to learn how to manage difficult circumstances and presented a verse titled “Rashtra ki Richaon ko Gunagunana Chahiye”, extending her greetings on Women’s Day to all women and students. Trustee of Sona Devi University and former Head of the Botany Department at Kolhan University, Dr. Nirmala Shukla, also extended her greetings on International Women’s Day. She congratulated those women who have fought for their rights. She stated that instead of focusing only on equality between men and women, it is more important to focus on equality of opportunities. She emphasized that empowerment comes through education. Women should develop their qualities and follow the right path. Dr. Nirmala also called upon men to express nurturing and maternal qualities. She stressed the need for change so that no one is left behind and encouraged society to think about giving back and to adopt a practical approach in helping women from every section move forward. Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Shri Prabhakar Singh, expressed gratitude to all the invited distinguished guests and extended his greetings on International Women’s Day. He said that even after nearly seventy-five years of independence, the position of women in society is not what it once was. In a country where women were once worshipped, they still had to struggle for their rights. A tribute program was organized on 6 March 2026 at the SDU School of Pharmacy, Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prof. Mahadeva Lal Schroff, widely recognized as the Father of Pharmacy Education in India. On this occasion, the institute’s Principal, Mr. Sudhanshu Shandilya, led the program and shed light on the life of Prof. Mahadeva Lal Schroff, his academic contributions, and his pivotal role in the growth and development of pharmacy education in India. Mr. Rahul Kumar Shaw, Head of the Department, described his ideals as a great source of inspiration for students and stated that it is the responsibility of all educators and learners to uphold and promote the academic values established by him. During the program, Mr. Kishore Kumar Mahakur and Ms. Uma Mahto shared their views on the work and historical contributions of Prof. Mahadeva Lal Schroff to pharmacy education and encouraged students to pursue research and quality-based education. Mr. Harsha Verma and Ms. Safinaz Taiyba also addressed the students, motivating them to follow his ideals and work in the field of pharmacy with ethics, dedication, and a spirit of service. Students from the B.Sc. Agriculture Science program and the School of Biotechnology at Sona Devi University, Ghatsila, undertook an educational visit today to the Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology Farm, Garhkhatanga, Ranchi. The objective of this visit was to give students hands-on exposure to advanced research areas such as Agricultural Biotechnology, Molecular Breeding, Genomics, and modern laboratory techniques. This experience will significantly enhance their academic learning and motivate them to pursue research and innovation in the fields of agriculture and biotechnology. The group consisted of approximately 18 students, accompanied by Mr. Sayan Banerjee, Assistant Professor, School of Agriculture Science, Ms. Patatri Mali, Assistant Professor, School of Agriculture Science, and Ms. Sonal Kumari, Research Scholar, Department of Biotechnology. During the visit, the participants gained valuable practical insights and hands-on experience in the field.

Sona Devi University hosted the National Science Day today at the Vivekananda Auditorium, Ghatsila campus. The event was organized under the theme “Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future”, where students from the School of Engineering and Technology, School of Pharmacy, and School of Agricultural Sciences presented their respective models. They conceptualized a model of a pond demonstrating scientific thinking and innovation. Student Kritika explained that this pond could be used for sustainable development in agriculture, contribute to pharmacy, and showcase models related to future science and technology innovations. Kritika, from the School of Agricultural Sciences, described the students’ project titled “Vigyan Jal Vatika”, a model pond incorporating a wastewater treatment plant. The project demonstrated water conservation, wastewater treatment, irrigation for agriculture, and aquatic biodiversity. Students from the SDU School of Science and Technology explained through a PowerPoint presentation how their water filtration system works, removing waste and impurities from the pond. They also highlighted its robotic technology. Biotechnology student Supriti Ghosh explained how this pond could be useful in the field of biotechnology. She discussed algae cultivation and aquaculture, the production of bio-fertilizers and organic waste, and emphasized that this initiative promotes green technology and water conservation. Through presentations, students from the SDU School of Pharmacy demonstrated how microalgae could be extracted from the pond and used to create health products. Registrar Dr. Nit Nayna encouraged the students, stating that science fosters scientific thinking, and urged them to work in the direction of scientific innovation. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Braj Mohan Pat Pingua highlighted the objectives of celebrating National Science Day, stating that scientific discoveries have significantly reduced mining and industrial accidents. The Vice-Chancellor suggested that students develop sensors to measure the Air Quality Index and encouraged interdisciplinary work, advising them to plan for the future while working with scientific thinking.

Jamshedpur, February 25, 2026: The School of Commerce and Management of Sona Devi University enthusiastically organized National Management Day at the Vivekananda Auditorium. Although the day is officially observed across the country on February 21, the university hosted this special event on February 25 in accordance with its academic calendar. The program commenced at 11:00 AM with the theme, “Management is not only leadership but also the systematic coordination of inspiration and ideas.” On this occasion, faculty members and students collectively expressed their commitment to nurturing the “Leaders of Tomorrow.” The day-long celebration featured intellectual discussions, motivational speeches, interactive quizzes, and energetic competitions. The main highlight of the event was the competition titled “Battle of Wits: Girls vs Boys,” which created an atmosphere of excitement and enthusiasm in the auditorium. AD MAD Show: In this competition, participants were challenged to present creative, on-the-spot advertisements for everyday products. Students showcased their marketing skills, dramatic presentation, and out-of-the-box thinking by creatively promoting simple items such as matchsticks and brooms in innovative ways. Tagline Challenge: In this test of branding skills, teams were required to create attractive and impactful slogans for common products within just two minutes. The originality and quick thinking of the students captivated the audience. During their address, faculty members stated that “Management Day is not just a formal event but an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of teamwork, strategy, and innovation.” Registrar Dr. Nit Nayna and Vice Chancellor Dr. Braj Mohan Pat Pingua also appreciated the students’ efforts and highlighted the importance of management education. They emphasized that “management is the art of organizing ideas and innovation,” and added that the day’s program clearly demonstrated the students’ potential to become successful corporate leaders in the future.
